Eclipse of The Century on Long Island

For the first time in 100 years a solar eclipse will be visible across the whole continent of North America. In New York, the visibility will be at 70%, creating a sense of sunset in the middle of the day.

When is it?

Aug. 21, 2017

1:24 p.m.: Eclipse starts on Long Island, eclipse eyewear must be worn

2:46 p.m.: Maximum coverage of sun, around 70%

4:01 p.m.: Eclipse ends on Long Island

Newsday Says: "While it may be tempting, ophthalmologists are cautioning against unsafe viewing of the solar event. Here's what a Long Island professional had to say about safe eclipse viewing."

**Don't forget about your pets eyes! Make sure to keep them inside.
